Julian Lewis was rushed to a hospital Wednesday following a medical emergency at the Colorado athletic facility. T.C. Lewis announced the news on X on Thursday, stating his son is recovering and expressing gratitude to the medical team and supporters. The family declined to share specific details about the incident and indicated there is no further comment at this time.
Colorado Athletics confirmed the emergency in a statement on Thursday. The school said it extends full support to Lewis and his family, noting that his health remains a top priority. The university added that Lewis is in the thoughts of players, coaches, and staff members who are assisting in his recovery.
Lewis had been listed as doubtful on the initial Big 12 availability report released Wednesday night. He is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound sophomore who arrived as the No. 12 recruit in the 2025 SC Next 300. The quarterback started Colorado's first four games this season before being benched for the Big 12 opener, a 23-13 loss at Baylor.
During his four starts, Lewis threw for 733 yards on a 64% completion rate. He recorded seven total touchdowns and three turnovers. Backup Isaac Wilson has started the past three games for the Buffaloes, who hold a 2-5 overall record and a 0-5 mark in conference play.
Head coach Deion Sanders addressed the team's quarterback situation at a news conference on Tuesday. When asked if Lewis is still competing for the job, Sanders said he did not want to give an answer perceived as taking a shot at the player. Sanders said he was not going to go down that rabbit hole and told reporters to do their homework.
Colorado is scheduled to host Kansas State on Saturday.
