Detroit Pizza Shop Opens in West Roxbury

Old Friend, a Detroit-style pizza operation, opened a permanent location at 5272 Washington Street in West Roxbury on Tuesday. The business had previously operated as a pop-up and held a residency at the historic Roslindale space known as The Substation.

Alden Caldwell runs the business. Universal Hub reported that the new site on Washington Street is ready for customers. The shop's website indicated it may already be accepting orders as of the date of publication.

Before settling in West Roxbury, Old Friend moved its operations from a pop-up format to the Exodus Bagels Airstream. Caldwell also serves customers at the Roslindale Farmers Market.

The menu centers on a specific recipe. Caldwell states that he makes every pan from scratch. The process uses a three-day fermented dough. The sauce is built on Jersey tomatoes.

The pizza features a crown of cheddar and mozzarella. Caldwell notes that this cheese layer caramelizes against the steel pan. The establishment maintains a web presence at oldfriendpizza.com and an Instagram page under the handle oldfriendpizza.

The new shop joins a growing number of dining options in the West Roxbury area. The address is 5272 Washington Street, West Roxbury, MA, 02132.
