For the first time since 2012, the AJC Varsity football rankings this week contain no new teams. Ranked teams dominated their unranked opponents, with Top 10 squads going a combined 58-0 in those matchups.

The lack of newcomers did not mean a static poll. Seven games were played between teams in the Top 10, and several of them produced movement within the classifications.

In Class 7A, No. 2 Carrollton beat Westlake 66-27. Westlake had been ranked sixth and slid to No. 8. Carrollton is 9-0 and remains behind only Buford, which is 8-0 and holds the top spot. Westlake is now 6-2.

In Class 6A, No. 2 Creekside defeated Hughes 23-0. Hughes had been ranked seventh and dropped to No. 10 with a 6-2 record. Creekside, now 7-1, stays second behind top-ranked Thomas County Central, which is 8-0.

The other Top 10 meeting in 6A was a close one. Milton, previously ranked fifth, edged fourth-ranked Gainesville 49-46, and the two teams traded places. Milton (7-1) is now fourth, and Gainesville (6-3) is fifth.

Other ranked teams also picked up wins over Top 10 opponents in smaller classifications. Prince Avenue Christian and Holy Innocents' did so in 4A-2A Private, while Charlton County and Taylor County did the same in Class A. None of those results caused significant changes in the rankings.

Among the other classifications, Cartersville (8-0) leads Class 5A, Sandy Creek (8-0) leads Class 4A, Toombs County (8-0) leads Class 3A and Heard County (8-0) leads Class 2A. Johnson County (8-0) sits first in Class A. In 4A-2A Private, Prince Avenue Christian (7-0) holds the top position.

The rankings were published by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Oct. 25, 2026, and were compiled by Todd Holcomb, who covers high school sports across the state.
