Westy Self Storage in Elmsford hosted the official start of the Toys for Tots Mission Possible campaign on October 27. ShopRite of Elmsford provided food for the gathering. The event marked the beginning of a coordinated effort to gather new, unwrapped toys for children in Westchester and Putnam Counties.
Volunteers attended the kickoff to connect with local organizations. They received identification and picked up toy collection boxes and posters. These partners will distribute the materials across their respective locations to begin collecting donations for the holiday season.
The campaign is part of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, which has operated since 1947. Local chapters rely on community sponsors and volunteers to fund their operations. The Westchester and Putnam Counties group is currently seeking businesses and residents to join the drive.
Participating organizations can host a drop site at their facility to accept new toys from customers and employees. Individuals can also sign up to volunteer their time for the local campaign. Community groups are invited to organize their own collection events to increase participation.
The initiative aims to turn local generosity into tangible support for families in need. Registration and further details are available on the campaign website. The effort depends on the number of collection boxes placed in the community and the volume of new toys donated before the holidays.
