A new scholarship at Texas Tech University will honor the memory of Chad Hasty, a radio host and university alumnus. KFYO, Townsquare Media and Hasty's family have partnered with the university's Free Market Institute (FMI) to establish the Chad Hasty Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Hasty, a Texas Tech graduate, was a firm supporter of the institute's mission and frequently featured its members on his radio show. The organizers said that directing scholarship money to the institute is a fitting tribute to his commitment to those principles and to his alma mater.

Money raised through the fund will go to select undergraduate students who have completed FMI's Political Economy Reading Program. Recipients will be chosen through a competitive process held each semester at Texas Tech, and each successful candidate will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

People wishing to contribute can write a check payable to Texas Tech Foundation, Inc. The memo line should read 'For the Benefit of the Free Market Institute – In Memory of Chad Hasty.' Checks should be mailed to the Free Market Institute at Texas Tech University, Box 45059, Lubbock, TX 79409-5059.

Donors may also give using a QR code created by the Texas Tech Foundation. After a transaction is completed, the foundation will mail a formal receipt to the donor.

In a statement, KFYO and Townsquare Media said they are grateful to Texas Tech University for its work supporting young Texans in honor of Hasty's legacy through the scholarship.

KFYO published its original story on Hasty's death on April 30.
