Romanian President Nicușor Dan has condemned what he described as Russian involvement in acts of sabotage on Romanian soil. He made the remarks in a post on X, as reported by European Pravda.

Dan pointed to Moscow's links to a sabotage network tied to an attempted arson attack on the grounds of a Romanian plant. He called such actions unacceptable and said they amount to a serious violation of Romania's sovereignty and security.

"No foreign state has the right to act in such a manner on the territory of Romania or other European countries," Dan said. He argued that Russia has for years used a wide range of tools to undermine European democracies. In his words, attempts to influence elections, disinformation campaigns, information warfare, cyberattacks and sabotage are all parts of the hybrid war that Russia is waging against Europe.

The president also praised Romania's intelligence services for the effectiveness they showed in uncovering the network.

Looking ahead, Dan promised a firm response. "Romania will act decisively to prevent similar incidents, identify those involved and protect the citizens and critical infrastructure of the country," he said. "Meanwhile, we will continue to cooperate closely with our NATO allies and European Union partners."

The case centers on an attempted arson attack at the Carfil weapons plant in Brașov on 14 September. The Romanian Intelligence Service exposed the network behind it and said it was coordinated from Russia. Authorities suspect a Ukrainian citizen and two Belarusians of carrying out the attempted arson.

Dan has previously noted a rise in the number of Russian provocations on the territory of the European Union.
