Construction crews began raising the structure above ground in September.
Tankhouse, Global Holdings, and MacArthur Holdings are developing the 20-story rental building at 450 Union St. in Brooklyn. The project, named Anagram Gowanus, contains 158 apartments. SO-IL and Magnusson Architecture and Planning designed the building with rotated floor plates to face the Gowanus Canal.
The exterior features beige cladding, operable windows, and private terraces. The developers set aside at least 20% of the units as affordable housing. The site sits near the Union Street and Carroll Street subway stations. This development follows the 2021 rezoning of the Gowanus neighborhood.
The plan includes a 5,700-square-foot public esplanade along the canal. Developers allocated about 22,000 square feet for commercial, retail, and community use. The building will house six studios for Arts Gowanus and other local artists. Indoor resident amenities include a fitness center, a children's playroom, an art studio, a co-working lounge, and a rooftop lounge with grills.
Leasing is expected to start in early 2027. Construction is scheduled to finish by spring 2027. The available documents do not list rental prices or a specific leasing date for prospective tenants.
