60,000 euros is the maximum administrative fine a Catalan fan faces for attempting to strike a Real Madrid player. The Catalonia regional police, known as the Mossos d'Esquadra, identified and sanctioned the individual on Thursday. The incident occurred during the El Clásico match held at Camp Nou on October 25. The game ended with a 2-1 victory for the visitors.
LaLiga, the Spanish football league, confirmed that police filed a report under the Sports Law. The league also sent the case to the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation. The fan is part of a support group in the 1957 stand. Barcelona security staff worked with police to identify the individual. The club will now review the case for internal disciplinary action.
The specific penalty depends on how authorities classify the breach. If deemed a serious violation, the fine ranges from 3,000 to 60,000 euros. If classified as very serious, the fine could reach 650,000 euros. LaLiga expects the incident to be categorized as serious because no physical injuries were reported. A serious classification carries a stadium ban of six months to two years. A very serious classification would impose a ban of two to five years.
The trouble started in the 88th minute. Kylian Mbappé scored the winning goal into an empty net. The goal followed a solo run by Eduardo Camavinga. Several Real Madrid players ran to embrace the French midfielder. The group moved toward one end of the pitch to celebrate.
Barcelona fans threw objects at the visiting players during the celebration. A small number of supporters reached Camavinga with the poles of their flags. The Real Madrid squad pushed the midfielder away from the closest section of the stands. The police report notes that the fan attempted to assault Camavinga and other members of the white team.
The fan received an administrative sanction from the regional police. This is separate from potential legal penalties. The case remains with the league's disciplinary body. The fan's support group will also review the incident. No further legal action has been announced beyond the initial police report.
