Jackson Chourio went 4-for-4 in Game 3 of the World Series, helping the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night. The victory gave Milwaukee a 3-0 series lead. The game was Chourio's 23rd career postseason appearance, all occurring over the past three years.
Chourio became the first 22-year-old to record four hits in a World Series game in 80 years. He has collected eight hits through the first three games of the current series. Milwaukee's offense scored eight runs with two outs in the fifth inning of Game 3.
"He's turning into a superstar right in front of our eyes," said Matt Arnold, the Brewers president of baseball operations. Arnold served as general manager when the organization signed Chourio out of Venezuela in 2021 at age 16.
Chourio's regular-season OPS from 2024 through 2026 stands at .799, while his postseason OPS is .882. Over the past three years, league-wide OPS has been 39 points higher during the regular season than in the playoffs. Chourio became the first player to post three consecutive seasons of 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases before turning 23.
Daniel Vogelbach, the Brewers hitting coach, said of Chourio, "A kid.. He could be playing college baseball right now." Gary Sánchez, the backup catcher, said in Spanish that he believes Chourio prefers postseason pressure to regular-season play.
Néstor Corredor, the Brewers field coordinator, observed Chourio becoming anxious during the National League Division Series rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Corredor said Chourio has since adjusted by working counts and shortening his swing. Corredor coached Chourio in the Venezuelan winter league and during this year's World Baseball Classic.
Chourio said in Spanish that he focuses on maintaining calmness and thinking only about positive results. He acknowledged that both he and others hold high expectations for his play. Christian Yelich, the Brewers captain, described Chourio as having a "slow heartbeat" and liking the moment.
Chourio's father, Jackson Sr., named him after Kobe Bryant. His younger brother, Jaison, plays in the Cleveland Guardians system and carries the middle name Oneel, a reference to Shaquille O'Neal.
Milwaukee's 3-0 series lead puts the franchise in position to claim its first championship in the team's 57-year history.
