Lindsay Clancy has been under a one-on-one suicide watch for three years, according to her civil attorney. Rosemary Scapicchio disclosed the details in a video posted to Facebook on Sunday, which previews an interview set to air on CBS Mornings Monday.
The attorney said Clancy has remained in a continuous monitoring situation at a state hospital in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Scapicchio explained that hospital staff cannot leave the accused mother alone due to concerns about self-harm.
"They can't leave her alone because they're concerned that she's going to kill herself," Scapicchio said. "They've had her in a one-on-one suicide watch for over three years."
Scapicchio argued that the daily reality of the hospitalization weighs heavily on Clancy. She stated that her client understands she hurt her children and expressed no doubt that Clancy would take her own life if given the chance.
Clancy, a Wallingford native, faces three counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege she strangled her children, Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months, on Jan. 24, 2023. The deaths occurred at the family home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, while Patrick Clancy was out of the house.
The defense team maintains Clancy suffered from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible. Prosecutors counter that the killings were planned and describe Clancy as controlling and manipulative.
