The Netherlands will provide €500 million in military aid to Ukraine, with a specific focus on strengthening its air defense capabilities. Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten announced the allocation on October 28 during a meeting with the Ukrainian president in the Netherlands.
The funding announcement coincides with the launch of a joint air defense project named Bliksem. According to a statement posted on X, the Ukrainian president said his teams have already begun work on the initiative. The project was tasked during a session where leaders met with heads of companies in the defense, energy, and software sectors.
The Ukrainian president stated that the two nations are raising their cooperation to a level that yields additional industrial and technological results. He listed defense production, joint technology, and energy projects as key priorities. He also cited satellite technologies and air defense as critical areas for practical and economic partnership.
Beyond the military package, the Dutch government is allocating €1.2 billion in non-military assistance over the next three years. This funding is designed to support recovery and reconstruction efforts while expanding opportunities for Dutch businesses. The government will also contribute €10 million to the Industrial Ramstein initiative for Ukraine.
No specific technical details of the Bliksem project were disclosed in the initial announcement. The joint effort marks a shift in the relationship, moving from bilateral aid to structured industrial collaboration between the two defense industries.
