Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland dove right to push aside Petar Musa's penalty kick in second-half stoppage time, preserving a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday. Musa had converted all five of his spot kicks this season before the attempt. Jansen Miller headed Owen Wolff's free kick into the net just before halftime to level the match.
The draw extended Kansas City's winless run to seven games, leaving the club at 6-22-5. With the result, Sporting Kansas City joined Toronto FC as the only MLS teams to finish a season without recording a clean sheet at home. The club also closed its home schedule with three wins, its lowest total to date.
Dallas opened the scoring in the 19th minute when defender Herman Johansson converted a one-touch finish from Ran Binyamin's through ball. It marked Johansson's first MLS goal and Binyamin's first assist since May. Dallas entered the match at 15-8-10, sitting second in the Western Conference and four points behind Vancouver. The draw allowed the Whitecaps to clinch the top seed and a berth in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Dallas hosts Colorado next Saturday. Kansas City visits San Diego the same day.
