Enterprise AI: Anthropic Launches Claude Duet

The new agentic application targets professionals and small businesses by automating complex workflows through a secure, background-execution model.

By Emily Carter ·

Anthropic has officially introduced Claude Duet, a new software application designed to operate as an autonomous agent for the professional workforce. The company is positioning this release as a distinct entry into a crowded market of artificial intelligence tools, aiming to capture the attention of users who require sophisticated task management rather than simple conversational interaction. By launching this specific product, the company seeks to differentiate its offerings from the wave of personal assistants that have recently saturated the technology sector.

The application is built upon the Claude Opus 5.5 model, providing a robust foundation for its operational capabilities. To ensure broad utility, the system integrates with more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available within the Claude Marketplace. This extensive connectivity allows the agent to interface with a wide array of professional tools, facilitating the automation of diverse business processes. The technical architecture supports the execution of complex tasks that require interaction with multiple external services simultaneously.

Anthropic has explicitly defined the target demographic for Claude Duet as professionals and small businesses. The company distinguishes this new agent from personal assistants, such as Instinct, by clarifying that Duet is not designed for casual errands or ticket booking. Furthermore, the application does not provide a real-time visual display of its browser activity. Instead, the focus remains on professional utility, where the agent builds daily briefings, creates data dashboards, and suggests specific actions based on the user’s existing data structures.

The operational model of Duet relies on background execution. The agent performs tasks within its own virtual machine, allowing the user to continue with other work without interruption. Once a task is completed, or if the agent encounters a step requiring human judgment, it returns to the user for approval. This proactive approach means the system monitors ongoing tasks and delivers recommendations as they become relevant, rather than waiting for explicit prompts. This shift aligns with a broader market trend where artificial intelligence is moving from reactive assistance to active representation.

In terms of financial transactions, the agent is capable of making online purchases on behalf of the user. It supports payments through Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, Anthropic has established strict boundaries for these interactions. Sensitive steps, particularly those involving payments, require explicit user approval. The company noted that Duet will not trade securities or move funds between accounts, limiting its financial authority to direct purchasing activities to maintain security and user control.

Security measures have been prioritized in the development of the platform. Anthropic released a new classifier designed to inspect every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is configured to decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification. This layer of protection is intended to address common privacy concerns associated with agentic systems that handle personal and professional data across various digital environments.

The launch of Claude Duet arrives at a pivotal moment in the industry, as competitors shift their focus from general assistants to agents that work on behalf of users. Rivals such as Meta, OpenAI, and others are increasingly emphasizing business use cases. Meta’s Muse, while primarily a personal assistant, has a version tailored for small businesses with app connections. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots integrates with professional tools to offer a business-oriented experience. Anthropic’s entry places it in direct competition with these established players, including Hark, Grok Bot, and Fo.

Availability for Claude Duet is currently limited to a research preview. The application is accessible on iOS and Android devices, as well as on the web through Claude.ai. Access is restricted to Pro and Max customers, who must join a waitlist to begin using the tool. This phased rollout allows the company to manage user feedback and refine the agent’s performance before a wider release.

The stakes for Anthropic are significant as it seeks to establish a foothold in the agentic market. By targeting the professional segment with a tool that emphasizes security, background processing, and extensive connectivity, the company aims to provide a reliable solution for businesses looking to automate their workflows. The success of Claude Duet will depend on its ability to deliver consistent value while maintaining the trust of users who are entrusting their digital tasks to an autonomous system.
