Southern Colorado is set for another mild and dry day on Thursday, October 29, as the region moves toward the start of the Halloween weekend. Forecasters at KOAA News5 say morning lows along the I-25 corridor were in the 30s and 40s, with temperatures warming quickly to the 50s by 10 a.m. Sunrise came at 7:23 a.m.
Afternoon highs will land in the 60s, a few degrees cooler than Wednesday. Upper-level clouds are expected to drift back over much of the area later in the morning and into the afternoon, but dry conditions are forecast to hold into the start of the weekend.
In Pueblo, the high is forecast to reach 65 degrees, with an overnight low of 42. Mostly clear skies helped temperatures drop into the 30s early in the day. Colorado Springs should top out at 64 with a low of 41. The day began sunny there, and winds are expected to stay calm at 5 to 10 mph out of the southwest.
Canon City is forecast to reach 67 degrees, with a low of 42, after a morning in the 40s. Woodland Park started the day in the upper 30s and should see a high of 60 and a low of 36, with more cloud cover arriving in the afternoon. In the Tri-Lakes area, Monument has been reaching freezing consistently through the week. The forecast there calls for a high of 62 and a low of 38.
Farther south, Walsenburg and Trinidad woke up to temperatures in the 40s. Highs there are expected to be 67 and 71 degrees, with lows of 43 and 45, under southerly winds of 5 to 10 mph. On the plains, a little fog was present along the Colorado and Kansas border early in the day, but it was expected to clear later in the morning. Highs on the plains will reach the 60s, with lows in the 40s.
The mountains will continue to see chilly mornings through the weekend, with lows in the 30s and highs in the 50s and 60s on Thursday. Forecasters say a change is on the way over the weekend, with heavy rain and some snow expected toward the taller peaks.
Halloween itself is still looking pleasant, with afternoon highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. A few more clouds are expected during the evening. The next weather system brings moisture on Sunday evening, when rain is expected to push onto the I-25 corridor. Breezy conditions will then arrive on Monday and last into Tuesday of next week.
