Old Rochester won its second consecutive Division 3 state golf championship on Sunday.
The Bulldogs posted a team score of 315 at the state tournament held in Massachusetts. This total placed them nine points ahead of the runner-up team. Triton finished second with a score of 324. Hopedale placed third with a score of 328. The Old Rochester result marked the first time the program has repeated as state champions in a row.
Two players anchored the Old Rochester lineup for the final round. Luke Pierre and Jack Czerkowicz provided the lowest individual strokes for the winning team. Their performance helped keep the cumulative team total under the 320 threshold required to win the crown. The school’s golf program enters the winter with its second straight state trophy in the cabinet.
The individual state title went to a different school. Colin Hayes from Triton captured the single player award. He finished with the lowest individual score among all competitors in the Division 3 bracket. The distinction gives Triton a state champion for the season despite finishing second in the team standings. Hayes’ score separated him from the rest of the field for the top individual honor.
Other fall sports results came in across the state on the same day. Abington soccer players dominated their South Shore League match against Masphee. Dimitri St. Paul scored two goals in that 5-0 victory. Raul Matoso added a goal and one assist for the Abington squad. In girls soccer, Hull defeated Randolph 7-0 in league play. Brianna Ramos scored two goals and recorded an assist in that game.
Field hockey teams also competed in league and nonleague matches. Watertown extended its unbeaten streak to 17 games with a 5-0 win over Winchester. Kaylee Master scored two of those goals for Watertown. The win marked the team’s 15th shutout of the season. In volleyball, Billerica swept Tewksbury 3-0 in a Merrimack Valley Conference match. Keera Conley recorded 16 assists and eight service points for the victors.
The final score sheet lists results for multiple high school sports across the state. The golf results serve as the headline story for the Division 3 bracket. Old Rochester’s 315 team score remains the benchmark for future Division 3 teams to beat. The Bulldogs have now secured their place in the state championship record books for the second year in a row.
