The 19-foot-8-inch Batmobile from Tim Burton's 1992 film 'Batman Returns' will go under the hammer on Monday, November 23, 2026. Organized by Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies, the sale is scheduled for Los Angeles and online. The vehicle is expected to sell for between $5 million and $7 million. That figure could set a new auction record for the iconic car.
The machine was designed by Carl Casper. It sits on two Chevrolet Impala chassis and retains its original glossy black finish. A radio-controlled flaming exhaust system remains functional. The car represents a specific era of practical effects in cinema.
The auction includes other items from the 'Batman Returns' production. Bidders can purchase an original Batsuit and cowl. A model of the Batmobile from Burton's 1989 'Batman' is also on the block. These pieces offer collectors a chance to own physical artifacts from the franchise's early years.
The sale extends beyond the Batmobile. Props from other superhero films are featured. Captain America's shield from 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' is part of the lineup. War Machine's helmet from the same film is available for purchase. A Superman costume from 'Superman IV' will also be sold.
Catherine Williamson, managing director of Hollywood memorabilia for Julien's Auctions, called the event a turning point for the mythology. She noted the sale spans the history of the character. The lot includes items from Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' trilogy as well as Burton's pioneering work.
