Michael Porter Jr. finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Julius Randle added 22 points as the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Charlotte Hornets 114-104 on Wednesday night. The win improved Brooklyn's record to 2-6 and marked its first victory since Sunday's game at Indiana.
The Nets trailed by seven points at halftime but took control in the second half. Mikel Brown Jr. contributed 18 points, Nolan Traore scored 16, and Danny Wolf added 13. Brooklyn shot 51 percent from the field and converted 38 percent of its three-point attempts.
Charlotte's Naz Reid led the Hornets with 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting. Grayson Allen provided 22 more points. The loss extended Charlotte's slump to five consecutive games, dropping the team to 3-6. Brandon Miller and Sion James each scored 10 points for the visitors.
Hornets forward Kon Knueppel made his season debut after missing time with a hamstring strain. He exited in the first quarter with soreness in his left leg and did not return to the floor. In six minutes, Knueppel scored three points on three free-throw attempts. He led the league in three-pointers made last season and finished second in the NBA rookie of the year voting.
Charlotte hosts the Boston Celtics on Friday. The Nets travel to Atlanta on Saturday to begin a four-game road trip.
