Ravens Acquire Brissett Amid Quarterback Injury Crisis
Baltimore trades for a veteran arm to replace injured stars, seeking stability for a 4-4 team.

The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to acquire quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals, a move intended to stabilize a position ravaged by injuries. The trade is expected to be finalized over the weekend, though specific compensation details have not been released. This acquisition addresses an immediate need after the team lost two of its three quarterbacks to serious ailments in a single game.
Two-time MVP Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury during Sunday's contest against the Buffalo Bills. The injury occurred on his first pass attempt and required surgery, raising questions about his availability for the remainder of the season. Backup Tyler Huntley entered the game but sustained a season-ending turf toe injury shortly after. This sequence of events left undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano as the projected starter for Thursday night's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, despite Fagnano also dealing with an ankle issue.
Brissett, a 34-year-old who will turn 34 next month, spent the last two seasons with the Cardinals. He was recently demoted to the third-stringer role after Gardner Minshew took over the starting duties. In Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, Minshew threw three touchdown passes to help Arizona overcome a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter, winning 33-30 in overtime. Brissett completed 10 of 23 passes for 119 yards and one interception before being substituted in that contest.
This transaction marks the second trade of Brissett's career and his seventh team in the NFL. He has started 73 games with a record of 23 wins and 50 losses. His career interception percentage stands at 1.5%, a figure tied for the second-lowest in NFL history behind Aaron Rodgers. In the past 365 days, Brissett is one of only five quarterbacks to accumulate 4,000 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, joining Drake Maye, Matthew Stafford, Jared Goff, and Dak Prescott on that list.
The move offers Brissett a substantial upgrade in defensive support. Over the last calendar year, the Arizona Cardinals allowed 32.6 points per game, a figure four points higher than any other team in the league. In contrast, the Baltimore Ravens allowed 22.6 points per game over the same period. Brissett has thrown 86 more career touchdowns than all other healthy quarterbacks on the Ravens roster combined.
The Ravens currently sit in last place in the AFC North with a 4-4 record. The team hopes that the presence of an experienced veteran under center will provide the stability needed to push its way into the postseason.
