The Stony Brook University Seawolves clinched a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association playoffs on Oct. 25 by defeating the Northeastern University Huskies 2-0. The victory concluded the Seawolves' regular season road schedule and extended their winning streak to two games. Northeastern will now prepare for its final regular season match against Monmouth University on Nov. 1.

Stony Brook, now 7-3-5 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play, secured the win through two penalty kicks. Northeastern, which finished the match with a 5-8-3 record and a 3-4-1 conference mark, dropped its final road contest of the season. The Seawolves dominated the disciplinary record, forcing nine fouls on the Huskies in the first half alone, compared to seven committed by Stony Brook.

The scoring opened in the 27th minute. Sophomore forward Emily Lemke advanced into the center of the box and was tripped by sophomore defender Jannah Pierce. Lemke converted the resulting penalty kick, sending the ball into the top right corner while goalkeeper Eliza Teplow dove left. The goal marked Lemke's seventh of the season and gave the Seawolves a 1-0 lead.

Northeastern attempted to equalize in the 42nd minute. Sophomore defender Nicole Bartlett delivered a cross from a series of deep throws, finding junior forward Foluke Balogun in the middle of the box. Balogun's shot sailed over the crossbar, leaving the score unchanged at the half. Stony Brook controlled 52 percent of the possession and recorded three shots on goal, while the Huskies managed one.

The second half mirrored the tactical balance of the first, with neither team gaining a decisive advantage in territory. Northeastern increased its time in the attacking third early in the period, but Stony Brook maintained defensive discipline. The Huskies received their fourth yellow card in the 55th minute, signaling the growing physicality of the contest.

The decisive moment arrived in the 83rd minute. Freshman defender Lisa Muller received the ball in the top left corner of the box. Balogun collided with Muller while attempting to regain possession, and the referee awarded a penalty to the Seawolves. Muller struck the shot to the right, away from Teplow's dive to the left, extending the lead to 2-0.

The win locked in Stony Brook's playoff position. The Seawolves held off Northeastern's late pressure as the game clock expired. The Huskies remain in the playoff hunt and will face Monmouth at home on Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. ET to secure their own spot in the postseason tournament.
