The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Calgary Flames 5-3 on Friday night in Calgary. Cutter Gauthier scored the winning goal with 1:34 remaining to extend his active goal streak to five consecutive games. This victory marked the Ducks' fourth straight win.
Anaheim became the first team since the 1991-92 Pittsburgh Penguins to score at least five goals in seven consecutive contests. Gauthier one-timed a pass from Mikael Granlund for the decisive strike. He has now scored 10 of his 12 goals this season during this streak. Jeff Malott, Tristan Luneau, Leo Carlsson, and Nikita Nesterenko, with an empty net goal, also found the back of the net for Anaheim.
Calgary trailed 3-2 entering the third period. The Flames' five-game home winning streak ended after Matt Coronato received a delay of game penalty 17 seconds into the period. Leo Carlsson tied the game at 55 seconds on a power play goal. William Stromgren, Joel Hanley, and Joel Farabee scored for Calgary. Morgan Frost and Zayne Parekh each recorded two assists for the Flames.
Lukas Dostal started for Anaheim but was replaced after allowing three goals on 11 shots in the first period. Ville Husso entered the game in relief and stopped all 10 shots he faced. Husso improved his record to 2-3-0. Dustin Wolf made 24 saves for Calgary in his third consecutive start.
Defenseman Jackson LaCombe recorded an assist to extend his points streak to nine games. This streak is the longest in franchise history for a defenseman. LaCombe passed Scott Niedermayer and Oleg Tverdovsky on the team list for consecutive points games. The Ducks will host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. The Flames will host the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
