Pop artist Grimes has been cast in Gods Don’t Give Gifts, a science fiction anthology that is set to become the first artificial intelligence generated film to receive a theatrical release. The movie opens in theaters on December 4, 2026. The production serves as a direct test of whether audiences will pay for films created primarily through AI technology.

Grimes will provide both her visual likeness and her vocal performance for the project. A promotional clip demonstrating these specific elements was shared with the public prior to the announcement. Industry observers view her participation as a method to lend credibility to a production that has drawn attention from entertainment professionals.

The film is produced by the AI studio Fable. In a press release, the company stated that this casting method is expected to become standard in the animation sector. Fable indicated that future AI driven films will feature actors, athletes, and musicians providing voice work while their digital copies appear on screen.

Jack London, known online as Gossip Goblin, directs the film. The narrative is set in a future where human bodies are considered disposable and consciousness is sold as a commodity. The story is divided into four interconnected segments that explore the results of humanity attempting to transcend physical form.

This role aligns with themes Grimes has explored in previous work, including transhumanism and artificial intelligence. She is also developing an album titled Psy Opera that centers on AI concepts. The project adds to a growing number of high profile efforts to integrate AI into major entertainment productions.

Previous attempts to use AI in film have received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Two different versions of The Odyssey were released, with one created using Elon Musk's Grok model. These earlier efforts left many observers questioning the medium's maturity.

Gods Don’t Give Gifts faces the challenge of proving that AI is a viable storytelling tool rather than a novelty. The involvement of a major star like Grimes aims to draw larger audiences to theaters to determine if the public is ready for this new form of filmmaking.
