Just under two months after its theatrical run, the movie 'Primetime' is available for purchase and rental on digital platforms. The release date is November 3, 2026. Viewers can access the film on services such as Prime Video.
The film is a thriller based on true events. It stars Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, the host of the NBC program 'To Catch a Predator.' The plot follows Hansen as he attempts to make television history. The most high-stakes sting operation in the show's history goes badly wrong. The narrative dramatizes how the program turned criminal justice into a public spectacle.
Merritt Wever plays Andie Bender, Hansen's producer on 'Dateline.' Skylar Gisondo portrays Daniel 'Dan' Plum, a young actor hired for sting operations who becomes Hansen's protégé. Phoebe Bridgers makes her film debut as Del Harvey, a decoy who plays both boys and girls on the show. Anna Faris appears as Mary Joan Hansen, the host's wife. Bokeem Woodbine plays Cortland Gunn, the Rockwall County chief of police. Alex Winter plays Bill Conradt, the assistant district attorney of Rockwall County, Texas, and the latest target of the show.
Lance Oppenheim directed the film. He wrote the script with Ajon Singh. The story is based on a 2007 article by Luke Dittrich in Esquire magazine. The article was titled 'Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die.' Matthew Maher also appears in the cast as Xavier Von Erck, an online vigilante and founder of Perverted-Justice.
The New York Post critic Johnny Oleksinski gave the movie three stars out of four. He noted that the film comes down hard on Hansen. Oleksinski wrote that Pattinson explodes as the host's life falls apart and he descends into madness. He described the film as a good time rather than a profound one.
Customers who rent the movie have 30 days to begin watching it. Once they press play, they have 48 hours of access to finish the film. The digital release allows viewers to watch the production at home after its initial cinema showing.
