The Revere City Council presented a certificate of commendation to former Mayor Thomas Ambrosino during its regular meeting on Monday evening.
The award recognized Ambrosino’s tenure, which spanned nearly 44 years across various government roles. His service in Revere included a 12-year term as mayor. Prior to that, he served four years as a city councillor-at-large and six years on the school committee.
Ward 5 Councillor Angela Guarino-Sawaya introduced the resolution. She noted that Ambrosino’s involvement in local government began before his first election. He graduated from Revere High School and later earned degrees from Boston University and Harvard Law School. Guarino-Sawaya described his 22 years in local leadership as a period of steady guidance that helped modernize the city.
The council members acknowledged his subsequent career moves. After leaving the mayoral office, Ambrosino served as the city manager in Chelsea. He later became the administrator for the Massachusetts Trial Court. Guarino-Sawaya stated that his record of service remained connected to Revere despite his work across the Commonwealth.
Council President Anthony Zambuto joined in the tribute. He called Ambrosino a terrific public servant and a wonderful human being. The recognition concluded a period of formal acknowledgment for Ambrosino’s recent retirement from public office.
Ambrosino accepted the certificate and thanked the body for its recognition. He reflected on his working relationship with the council members. He stated that while they often disagreed in public, he maintained personal friendships with nearly every councillor. He cited his relationship with President Zambuto as an example of that private rapport.
The certificate marks the formal end of his active political role in the city. The council session concluded with Ambrosino expressing his enjoyment of the leadership position and the spirited interactions with his colleagues.
